METAL GEAR SOLID 2 SECRETS

AKS-74u Suppresser:

Once you defeat the Harrier, hang, cross, then drop to a pipe. Close to the other end of the pipe, do a cartwheel onto the north part of the destroyed catwalk. It takes time, try only tapping X. Collect the ammo if needed, then put out the fire near the doorway (with help from Mr. X). You have now found the suppresser.

Bullet Proof Vest:

The Bullet Proof Vest is located in the flooded section before and after finding Emma. Do not enter the hall that leads to Emma. Instead, go to the end of the passage. Either the dead end hall to your left or the room to your right contains them. Avoid the mines by using the mine detector.

Codec moments:

After defeating Olga, walk up to her and call Otacon to get a message that she looks like an angel.

After defeating Olga, walk up, and in first person view, shoot her in the head with the M9. Otacon will call saying he cannot believe you.

After defeating Olga, get your camera and zoom in on her pants zipper. Take a picture of it. Later, when you give Otacon the pictures, he will have a funny comment.

When on the Plant mission, after getting the SOCOM, go to the roof of strut A. Use your M9 to put the birds to sleep when they land, then shoot them with the SOCOM. After killing enough birds, you will get a call asking if you are done being mean to the birds.

Look at the bugs in the Plant mission and call the Colonel (140.85) to get an explanation of why they are there.

Keep calling people on the Codec to get more story elements. Keep calling until they give you control tips, or repeat themselves a few times. This works at a number of times in the game -- try it after every major plot point.

When you are in the B1 level of the Shell 1 Core (the room where the hostages are being kept), try to do a flip to knock out at least three of the hostages. After a while you will receive a call from your CO and Rose saying what a mean person you are for harming those poor defenseless hostages.

Immediately after you first meet Pliskin, stay in the room where he is sleeping on the stairs and call him on the Codec (141.80). He will be asleep and Raiden will watch him. Call a few more times to hear him dreaming about Meryl and Liquid Snake.
(Information in this section was contributed by Akira.)

After you get the BDU, call Rose and she will start saying funny things.

In the Tanker mission, before you have to take pictures of Metal Gear RAY, take a few of some moments that you encounter. For instance, if you take a picture of the Raven toy and submit it in the computer in the room where the commander is speaking, Otacon will say some interesting things.

When Emma is crossing between the struts, use the Directional Mic at her as she goes behind the first one. You will hear her talking about Raiden. When she comes from behind the strut, call her on the Codec to talk about what she just said.

Call Otacon as Snake for a while. Otacon will repeat one of Mei Ling's sayings from Metal Gear Solid and say it wrong. You will hear her correct him.

To get Otacon mad, after knocking out Olga, shoot her with the dart gun. Otacon will call with a message. Also, go in a locker and call Otacon (as Snake). You will make a bad comment towards him.

To get Campbell/Rose angry, start killing birds. They will call, telling you that you are a monster. Also, beat up the helpless hostages and get yelled at. You can then call back and apologize.

Call Snake or Rose with a magazine equipped or looking at it. They will each make funny comments.

Call anyone while in a women's bathroom for a comment. Call Campbell while crouching and looking at a toilet.

When escorting Emma, punch her one time. Then call her on the Codec (141.52) four times to hear her say that it hurt and how you suck.

During the Plant mission, while in the dining hall, go to the men's bathroom (the one on the left as you enter). Go to the urinals and face the one on the right. Use first person view, then call the Colonel. Also do the same at the last commode to the right in the ladies' bathroom to reveal Raiden's dilemma.

If you play the game for about five hours straight, Campbell and Rose will call on the Codec hinting that you have been playing the game too long.

When you enter Arsenal Gear, go up the first set of stairs on the right. Soon after you get to the top, the Colonel will call you on the Codec. He will talk to you about things that have nothing to do with the game. Call him a few times and you can listen to all the odd things he has to say, such as turn off the console, rescue president Baker (who is not in the game), and something about Rose and a man walking out of her apartment and them looking "in love". Once you complete the level you will find out why the Colonel is saying those things.

In the hangar of Arsenal, the Colonel will start to say funny things. If you wait after a few of his silly calls and then call him, you will get a nice screen of a Japanese model showing off. There is another screen of a Japanese model if you wall hug the south door in the long corridor off of the hangar.

After defeating the Harrier, hang over the rail, walk down the pipe, jump over another rail, and jump down. After you jump down, two guards will appear. Shoot each of them in the head without them seeing you. Go down the catwalk and climb the ladder. There will be another pair of guards that you have to kill. Kill them both without them seeing you. When you make your way around the building, a guard will appear and start urinating. Stand underneath him then call the Colonel for a funny conversation.

Take a picture of the Vulcan Raven doll and Otacon will question your sexuality.

In Hold 3, take pictures of the Commandant and send them to Otacon. First, he just thinks you are a fan. Then, he hints that you are in love with him. Finally, he just gets mad.

When you are in Hold 1, there is a hatch on the left side of the room. Open it to discover a vent. Take it all the way to Hold 3. Note: In Hold 2, a guard will drop his magazine into the vent, so watch out. Go to the vent on the right side of the room that you end up in. It will lead to an area with a pole next to you. If you look at the leg of Metal Gear RAY, Revolver Ocelot is hiding there. Take a picture and Otacon will become afraid of it.

When going to get Emma (after defeating Vamp) go to the first air hole and look forward. There is a vent to the room with Emma. Look to the stairs and you will see Emma sitting there. The Codec will call with be Rose yelling at you for looking at another girl.

Call Snake after Ocelot kills the President. You will find out what Snake and Raiden really think about each other.

When taking Emma to strut L, run around a corner or far away from her. Call her on the Codec to find out that she is worried.

After you met Pliskin and get the Coolant, go to the room in which you saw Vamp last. Spray the C4, and after you leave the strut, Rose will call on Codec and remind Raiden of how they met. Note: You have to get all of the pictures in Chapter 1.

To get funny messages from Otacon, take pictures of the Commandant during the speech. There will be a funny sound if the picture has been taken correctly.

Codec story elements:

After you first meet with Pliskin, you can call him on the Codec and he will give you information about the members of Dead Cell. For example, you will learn that when Vamp was a young boy, his family was killed in a church and he was trapped under rubble for days. He had to feed off of his family's blood in order to survive. They call him "Vamp" because he is bisexual. As a matter of fact, he and Fortune's father, Commander Dolph (the person with the seven minute long speech) were lovers.

Coolant:

You can wake guards up with coolant by spraying it in their face. Shoot directly at the lens of a camera to disable it. Use coolant to disable bombs, such as the first one in Strut D. Spray coolant into an enemy's face, and he will not be able to see for a while.

You can use Coolant to see laser beams. Use it on the bathroom mirrors and see what happens. Also, use it on the green bird and listen what it has to say.

You can blind soldiers temporarily by spraying coolant on them when they're conscious. Note: You may have to stick them up before doing this.

Digital camera:

Successfully complete the game. The digital camera will be available when a new game is started.

The digital camera is locate in Strut E Shell 1. Go to the bottom of the screen and locate the platform with three red lights on it. Climb up onto it and equip the Z.O.E. Box. When the conveyor stops, press Action to climb on. You will be taken to another room. Press Action again to get off and retrieve the Digital Camera. Exit the room in the same fashion.

"In The Darkness Of Shadow Moses" novel:

Go to "Previous Story" in "Special". Read the entire "The New York Mirror" entry (11pages). Then, read the entire story unlocked after reading the "New York Mirror" from front to back (about 129 pages). After that, you will unlock the "In The Darkness Of Shadow Moses" novel that Raiden talks about in the Plant chapter.

Directional Microphone:

Throughout the game there are points that if you take the Directional Microphone away from where it is supposed to be pointed at to hear other funny things.

Urinating hostage
Go to Shell 1 and go to the B1 floor (where the retinal scanner is located). Go through the retinal scanner and go to the right side of the room. When the guard is not looking, bend down and use the directional microphone on one of the hostages (it varies). The hostage will urinate, if it is not Ames.

Guard in bathroom
When you are listening to the conversation between Ocelot and Solidus with your Directional Mic, press Left to point the mic at the bathroom. You will be able to listen to a very humorous scene where Johnny (the guard with the upset stomach while you are in the cell in Metal Gear Solid) is having problems on the toilet.

Johnny again
During the oil bridge area during the Plant mission, use the Directional Mic and point it at the second tower. You will hear Emma talking with Johnny, who still seems to be having stomach problems.

Emma conversations
Point the Direction Mic at Emma as she crosses the bridge to hear her saying a couple things. Also point the Mic at the pillars (cylindrical bases) as Emma goes behind them.

Snake comments
Aim the Directional Mic At snake while he is helping you snipe to hear him say some interesting comments.

Hostage name
In the Core of Shell 1 is a girl who has brown hair with no gag covering her mouth like the other hostages. Use the Directional Mic on her and she tell you her name is Jennifer. If you ask her again, she will tell you to get away.

Skip Directional Mic conversations:

Press Start in the middle of the conversation to advance past it.

Peter Stillman's dog tag:

After you defeat Fatman, pick him up and drag him. You will eventually get the dog tag.

Olga's dog tag:

After getting the gun from Olga, pick her up and drop her. She will reveal her dog tag.

Snake's dog tag:

During this "battle" you are supposed to get his dog tags, which are supposedly very hard to collect. They are actually the easiest to obtain. Just walk up to him and get him in the choke hold. Do not kill him, but knock him out. Shake his body and they will fall out.

Before entering the round room near the end of Arsenal Gear, Snake will follow you. Shoot Snake with the tranquilizer gun to put him to sleep. Pick Snake up and drop him. He will leave his dog tags behind. To wake him up, use the Coolant spray.

You can obtain the dog tag belonging to Meryl from Metal Gear Solid while playing through the game under the easy difficulty setting. Once you meet up with Snake inthe long hallway of Arsenal Gear, knock him out. Pick him up then shake him down to obtain Meryl's dog tag.

Knock out Snake under the very easy difficulty setting to get Iriquoi Pliskin's dog tag; easy difficulty setting to get Meryl's dog tag; and normal difficulty setting to get Snake's actual dog tag.

When you get the dog tag from Snake under the hard difficulty setting, you will receive Liquid Snake's dog tag. When this is done under the extreme difficulty setting, you will receive Hideo Kojima's dog tag.

So Toyota's dog tag:

On the AB connecting bridge, the guard on the right exiting the pump room will have So Toyota's dog tags.

Dog tag viewer:

Successfully complete the game. Select the "Dog Tag Viewer" option at the "Special" menu to see where a missing dog tag is located.

M9:

The M9 can be found under the normal difficulty setting in the upper level of Strut F, in the room that does not require card key. It is easiest to cross over from Strut A and remain on the top level of the bridge. It will be the second door.

At the start of the Plant mission on the very easy difficulty setting, the M9 can be found under the shelves next to the steps leading up to the door. On the easy difficulty setting, it can be found next to the large suits in the wire cage. To get in, hang over the edge next to the water and shimmy across.

Night Vision Goggles:

The Night Vision Goggles are located in the enclosed room of B1 Shell 2. Enter the water, go right, go left into doorway, go to the bottom right of the room.

Under the easy difficulty setting, the Night Vision goggles can be found in the first flooded section of Shell 2

Posters:

In the first chapter, go into one of the lockers with posters in them and close the door. Look down at the poster and press R1. Snake will make a kissing sound.

Get out of the locker and face directly at the poster. Hold R1 and while continuing to hold that button, press Select to call Otacon. Snake and Otacon will have a funny conversation.

Open up the lockers with the posters of Japanese models in them. Keep the door open and press up against it. Tap the poster model's head and chest. Then, duck down and tap the power model's crotch. Snake's crotch will be marked with a "!".

Opening a locker and if there is a girl poster inside, knock on it. The alarm will go off and guards will enter the room.

To distract a guard, open a locker with a picture of a girl in it. When enemies are searching for you, they will look at the picture instead. This is useful when you are being chased. Note: This will not work if you are seen while they are looking at the poster.

If you knock out a guard with an M9 as soon as he sees a poster and listen in with the Directional Mic, he will moan and make the sound of a kiss in his sleep.

PSG1-T:

The PSG1-T can be found under the normal difficulty setting in the flooded bottom of the Shell 2 Core, in the room that Peter Stillman's dead body floats out of when you open the door. Swim to the other end of the room and open the door. Next, go up for a breath of air. Then, go back into the room and swim to the top left of the end. There should be a hole that you can get through in the rubble. Inside is the PSG1-T. It is a tranquilizer version of the PSG1.

The PSG1-T is in the same room with the PSG1. It is in the air duct on the floor. You have to crawl into it to get it.

Retina Scanner:

To get through the Retina Scanner, go behind a guard, get him in the chokehold, but do not kill him. Drag him to the scanner and move the Analog-Stick so the guard's face is towards the scanner.

Shoot all of the guards with a tranquilizer. Kill all but one of the guards with a SOCOM. Shoot his radio with a tranquilizer. Keeping the guard knocked out, drag him to the retina scanner and spray him on his face with Coolant, Unequip your weapons, quickly grab him with a chokehold, then get him to face the retina scanner.

Shaver:

When you start the Plant episode, hang over the ledge facing the pool. Jump off and get the Shaver. When you first meet Snake, Raiden will give Snake the Shaver. Snake will now look different in the intermissions.

SOCOM Suppresser:

Under the normal, hard or extreme difficulty setting, go into Strut F. In the room with the node, go to the wall at the bottom of the screen. Crawl down to find an air duct. Follow it to get to the room with the SOCOM Suppresser.

Sunglasses:

After completing the game two times, Snake and Raiden will be wearing sunglasses.

Stealth Camo:

Successfully complete the game in extreme mode without using rations.

To get Stealth for the Plant mission, collect 120 dog tags during that mission and complete the game.

To get Stealth for the Tanker mission, collect 60 dog tags during that mission and complete the game. This is most easily done by getting all the dog tags under the very easy, easy, and normal difficulty settings for the Tanker.

Note: Do not use rations when playing under normal or hard difficulty settings.

Thermal Goggles:

Thermal Goggles are located in the sub bay's water entrance to the south east in the Plant mission. At the start of the mission, jump into the water and go as far down as you can. Check all the corners for them.

In the very easy and easy difficulty settings, the Thermal Goggles can be found in the water in the entrance room.

In the Tanker mission, after fighting Olga go up the stairs to the right of the control room. Climb the ladders to the top.

If you did not get the Thermal Goggles in the sub bay in the beginning of the plant mission, and you missed it the second time to disable the bomb, they can also be found in B1 Shell 1. That is the same room with Ames. They are behind the desk.

Equip the Thermal Goggles and look at guards. If they have a dog tag, it will show up as a white dog tag on a chain around their neck.

Wigs:

Get 50 or more dog tags under the very easy, easy, or normal difficulty settings to get a brown wig. It allows unlimited ammunition, but does not prevent reloading. Get 150 or more dog tags under the hard difficulty setting to get an orange wig. It allows infinite grip. Get all the dog tags to get a blue wig. It allows unlimited oxygen when underwater.

Stealth, Bandanna and Wig bonuses:

Complete the following goals to get the Stealth (invisibility), Bandanna (unlimited ammo for Snake), and the Wig (unlimited ammunition for Raiden). To get Stealth and Bandanna, complete the Tanker mission three times on three different difficulty settings (all on the same saved file) and get all the dog tags. To get Stealth and Wig, complete the plant three times on three different difficulty settings (all on the same save file) and get all the dog tags.

Zone Of The Enders Box:

Look very closely at the side of box 5. You will notice has the logo of another Konami game; Zone Of The Enders (Z.O.E.).
